Choices

I think that at the end of every year we all tend to look back and reflect on the past 365 days and some of the choices that we made.

We all make hundreds of decisions every day . . . from what time we get up in the morning, whether we eat breakfast, what we wear, right up to what we think about when we lay our head back down on that pillow.

Our day consists of how we treat others, how we treat or think of ourselves and our loved ones, to how often we express our love to those we care about.

This thinking leads to another level of our bigger choices in life. Our relationship with God, our families, our careers, the friends we choose – whether it be for a reason, a season or a lifetime.

Sometimes we feel that we have no choice, that our plans collapse all around us or that decisions were made for us. That may well be true to some form but how we react is certainly a choice that we make for ourselves.

On a personal note, The Cowboy and I are extremely grateful for the decision that we made to become full time RV’ers. I hesitate to use the term RV’er – Recreational Vehicle with emphasis on the ‘recreational’ implies that this would be a spare time activity. The dictionary states: Not for work, done or used for pleasure or relaxation rather than work. The definition also includes the word Leisure – fun, frivolous and entertaining. Hey, well, I guess that is the correct term to describe our lifestyle.

I digress (yet again!)

This lifestyle that we very deliberately chose has given us the opportunities to travel and see parts of this wonderful country that a lot of people only dream about. We spend time in small communities getting to know some of the local residents, experience their cultures and their cuisines.

We also get to know other RV’ers. We love to hear their travel stories, where they’ve been and where they’re headed. The majority of these travelers are the nicest, friendliest and most helpful that we’ve ever met.

Aside from the wonderful friends that we’ve made along the way there is an added benefit. Since we have been traveling and spending our winters in the south, we feel that our ties with our families and old friends has intensified. We all make more of an effort to get to together and share some fun times when we arrive back in the spring. They are actually happy to see us and we can’t wait to see them too.

So, how was your year as you reflect back? Have you made some good choices?
